In
resent twenty years, the important of research in comparative education has
been generally recognized by highly developed countries in Europe and America.
The decision on modern educational policies, in addition to basing on a country's
special circumstances, about also take other countries' systems and experiences
as references. The proverb, a stone from another mountain could be used to
polish the gem means just this. For this reason, the research results in comparative
education should be transformed into the tools of other countries' reform.
In other words, an understanding of the reform tendencies of other countries'
educational system can provide one's own country with references for an educational
innovation. Today important educational reforms, usually take comparison and
analysis of educational issues as the main basis for innovation or decision
making.
At
present, the comparative education research in the Republic of China still
needs to push further. In view of the internal and external situation, the
entire nation, in order ot adhere to Chiang Kai--shek's teaching on self-reliance
era of resurgence by re-creating, re-strengthening, re-progressing and re-innovating.
Therefor, on October 8, 1973, Prof. Pang-chen Sun and other educators took
initiatives in organizing the Chinese Comparative Education Society(CCES)
and undertook comparative research in other nations' education as a way to
promote international understanding. They cooperated with the International
Education Society, gathered comparative education experts to engage in group
research and offered our government their research results for references
in educational innovation and education planning. ?
